Sugar Ray Leonard

Sugar Ray Leonard is one of boxing's defining champions, an Olympic gold medalist at the 1976 Montreal Games who went on to become a five-division world champion, with signature victories over Roberto Durán, Thomas Hearns, and Marvin Hagler that helped define an entire era of the sport. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997 and remains one of the most recognizable athletes of his generation.

In 2009, Leonard and his wife Bernadette established the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation, dedicated to funding research and raising awareness for childhood type 1 and type 2 diabetes — a cause inspired by watching his own father and friends struggle with the disease's complications. The foundation's programs, including Teen Power and Kids N Fitness, help children and families build healthier routines, and its annual “Big Fighters, Big Cause” charity boxing night has become a major fundraising event drawing more than 1,500 guests each year.

Westcoast Sports Associates presented Sugar Ray Leonard with the Roy Firestone Award in 1999, honoring both his championship career and his ongoing fight for children's health.
