Andre Agassi

Andre Agassi won eight Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games, becoming the fifth man in history — and at the time only the second — to complete the career “Golden Slam.” He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2011.

In 2001, the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education opened the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in his hometown of Las Vegas, a public charter school built with $40 million raised by his foundation to serve underserved kids in Historic West Las Vegas. The academy was named a National Model Charter School by the U.S. Department of Education in 2003 and its first graduating class achieved a 100 percent college acceptance rate. Agassi later shifted his foundation's focus toward broader education grantmaking and charter-school financing, applying the lessons learned from running his own school to help launch and fund charter schools nationally.

Westcoast Sports Associates presented Andre Agassi with the Roy Firestone Award in 2010, honoring a legendary playing career and a philanthropic commitment to education that reshaped opportunity for thousands of students in his hometown.
